The Judges
The judging panel for the inaugural Sweet Talk Awards 2011 includes a mixture of healthcare professionals from various fields plus a number of well known Australian celebrities involved in last years TV series. Read more about the judges here.

Dr Hilton Shapiro
Dr Hilton Shapiro is a general practitioner practicing in Mascot, Sydney. He has a particular interest in Paediatrics and Child Health, having obtained a Diploma of Child Health (DCH) in South Africa in 1977 with other medical interests including diabetes management in general practice.
Assoc. Prof. Jane OverlandJane is a Diabetes Nurse Practitioner and holds a Clinical Chair with the School of Nursing, University of Sydney. She has worked in chronic disease management for over 20 years and was Australia's first Nurse Practitioner, specialising in Type 1 diabetes.
She currently works at the Diabetes Centre at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital being responsible for clinical management, psychological support and education to a wide range of people with diabetes and their families.

Jayne Lehmann
Jayne Lehmann is the Director and principal consultant of EdHealth Australia. Jayne is a Credentialed Diabetes Educator with 24 years of experience in diabetes self-management education and care, gained from a broad range of health settings and organisations nationally.

Prof. Jane Speight
Jane is the Foundation Director of the Australian Centre for Behavioural Research in Diabetes - a partnership for better health between Diabetes Australia (Vic) and Deakin University. She is also Chair of Behavioural and Social Research in Diabetes at Deakin University, where she is responsible for a large and varied program of applied research.
Nathan Bassett Nathan Bassett led the Adelaide Crows as a star defender for ten years until his retirement from AFL in August of 2008. Lovingly referred to by his fans as “The Hound”, Nathan was recognised for his courage and unrelenting ability to bounce back from serious injuries. Eight weeks after his diagnosis with type 1 diabetes, Nathan was back playing for the Crows and successfully managing his diabetes while maintaining the busy schedule of a professional sportsman.
Barbara Holborow
Today, after 65 years of living with diabetes, Barbara has achieved a successful career as a Children’s Court Magistrate, author, public speaker and has been honoured with the Order of Australia Medal and the Kellion award. She is one of the longest living Australians with type 1 diabetes.

Jack Perkins
Jack Perkins was living the dream. In 2006, as a professional V8 Supercar racing driver he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and told he would never race again. He stood down from racing for a while but then Jack learnt how to manage diabetes with the help of his diabetes educator and endocrinologist. By researching the latest technology to monitor his blood glucose levels and identify problems early, Jack proved to the international racing authorities that he was capable of racing safely and received special permission to keep competing.

Dr Alan Barclay
Alan is the Chief Scientific Officer at Glycemic Index Foundation and has worked for Diabetes Australia (Australian Diabetes Council). As a prominent voice, Alan frequently appears in the media, discussing diabetes and is also co-author of the “New Glucose Revolution: Diabetes & Pre-diabetes” handbook.
Assoc. Prof. Christopher P Gilfillan
Chris Gilfillan is Director of Endocrinology and Clinical Executive Director of Emergency and General Medicine at Eastern Health. He has a private endocrine practice in Box Hill with strong clinical and research interests in endocrinology, type 2 and gestational diabetes.
Assoc. Prof. Maarten Kamp
Maarten Kamp trained as an endocrinologist but prefers to be known as a ‘diabetologist’ - the clinical area that he has focussed on for the past 15 years. He is District Director of Chronic Disease Strategy, Metro North Health Service, Queensland and Associate Professor, School of Medicine, University of Queensland. He was the inaugural appointed Chair of the Queensland Health Statewide Diabetes Network.
Victoria Stevenson
Victoria is a Diabetes Educator and the Manager of the Diabetes Education Services & Co-ordinator of the Islet Cell Transplant Co-ordinator at Austin Health. Her focus is on innovative patient care, health professional education and organizational structure.
